Cyclists Fighting Cancer – Helping kids fight cancer

Latest News  – We are proud to announce our very first big event “The Wheel Heroes 100′s”  on  22nd May 2011, there will be two non-competitive rides over 100 miles and 100km.  Based from the Racecourse, Stratford upon Avon the fully supported courses will meander along the highways and byeways of the beautiful Cotswold hills and surrounding  countryside taking in Chipping Campden and Stow on the Wold.  The course is suitable for bike riders of all kinds and we are keen to attract all abilities and would encourage people who wouldn’t normally get involved in these “serious” distances.   For further details and entry click here

Last week I received a call from a grateful mum saying thanks for the bike her daughter had received last Christmas, nothing unusual there as we often get calls, cards and emails expressing thanks and very often I post them up on the website and Facebook page.

I launched into an ‘it’s our pleasure’,  ’glad we could help’ upbeat response, ‘how’s it going?’ I inquired,  the mum said that sadly her child had passed away in June…  The reason she had called was to say that in her last six months she had enjoyed riding her bike the most , that they’d had great days out as  a family and that they had a picture of her daughter on her bike looking so happy which they would cherish forever.

For once I was short for words and offered my sympathy and thanked her for taking the time to let us know.

This isn’t the first child to have receivied a bike that hasn’t made it and unfortunately it won’t be the last but as long as our bikes and trikes continue to give children affected by cancer happy days, quality of life improvements through increased fitness, strength and self esteem then we will continue to drive our message forward.
