The Wheel Heroes event is a series of non competitive sportive rides for cyclists of all abilities.  The 100 mile and 100 Kilometre rides explore the fantastic riding country south of Stratford upon Avon and across the north Cotswolds.  The new “Lite” rides over 25 and 10 miles are an opportunity for leisure or less experienced cyclists to get a taste of the sportive experience.

The rides will be taking place on Sunday 27th May 2012 at Stratford Racecourse Luddington Road, Stratford upon Avon, starting at 8am. (Please note this is not a bank holiday weekend)

Based on the success of our inuagural event in 2011 the rides will be forming the backbone of our new two day Stratford upon Avon Cycling Festival 26/27th May.

Both events are organised by and are for the sole benefit of our charity Cyclists Fighting Cancer and our work supporting children and families affected by cancer throughout the UK.

The Routes
The selection of distances over 10, 25, 62 and 100 miles offers something for riders of all abilities from juniors and novices to seasoned sportive riders.  We are looking to get as many people as possible out on the road enjoying the fantastic riding country south of Stratford upon Avon as possible.  For full route details click here

Signs and roads
The course is fully marked with large fluorescent signs plus every rider will get a small ‘backup map’ given in case that marking gets damaged or removed (full routes directions are printable and down-loadable, click here) . We will also have marshals at important points of the course as well as roaming marshals during the day that will look after the riders in the best way possible. Further to that we will have a group of out-riders that will inspect the course and the marking prior to the start and feed back any important updates for the pre-ride briefing.

Feed stations sponsored by Budgens
Around the 100km and 100m courses the riders will find feed stations every 25 miles. Here they can expect not just the latest in energy food and drinks but snacks, cakes, coffee and freshly brewed tea and lots more.
Mechanical Support
We will have mechanics at the registration to give the bikes the last few tweaks before the off but we will also have spares and track pumps on every feed station. On top of that we will have three on course mechanics responding to any technical difficulties. An emergency number is on the back up map for mechanical or medical emergencies.

Broom/Sag wagon
Should you have more severe problems with either your bike or your body we will have three broom wagons at various points on the course who will be able to take and your bike back to the start.

Chip timing
We will use timing chips which will be fitted to your number board. These will give riders an idea how long it took them to complete the entire course (please keep in mind that the event is non-competitive but that doesn’t mean you can’t post a fast time)
