Hi, I am Rich Salisbury. After meeting Mike at a cycle show in 2010 I started trying to help CFC wherever I could. As a qualified Bike Fitter, Cycle Mechanic and with a degree in Sports Injuries I was able to assist in getting the right type of bike and adaptations for children who needed some extra help to get pedalling. A year or so later and I had become a Trustee for the charity and have hopefully helped to steer the ship a little bit ever since!
CFC means so much to me as it allows me to feel I am giving something back for being one of the lucky ones after my own diagnosis with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 2001. Seeing children experience cycling either for the first time or after treatment when they thought they might never be able to do it again is truly mind-blowing every time, so to be part of a great team that helps give the gift of cycling to some of the most deserving of children is a great honour. I have more recently qualified as Level 4 Cancer Exercise specialist to give me further knowledge to help those going through and living with a cancer diagnosis.
Ultimately I love riding anything on 2 wheels, cycling means so much to me in my recovery from cancer and everyday life ever since. I just want to help give that feeling to as many young people as we can.
Hi I am Dannie. I’m paediatric anaesthetist based in Scotland.
I became involved with CFC after my own cancer diagnosis and the realisation that any form of exercise is beneficial in dealing with the effects of cancer, its treatment and as a rehabilitation aid.
I work with children every day and see the devastation that a cancer diagnosis brings, helping CFC support these children and their families is such a privilege.
CFC offers children and families having the hardest of times a way to make a difference to their own treatment, and I’m honoured to be a part of that.
Hi, I'm Steve Miles and I became involved with CFC at the end of 2019 after I retired and started volunteering at their Charity Bike Shop.
I live in Cheltenham with my wife Fiona. Our daughter Jenna, is a professional dancer and occasional cyclist. I am passionate about CFC for three reasons. Many of my close family and also many friends have been directly affected by cancer, helping kids, young people and their families get through cancer is very rewarding and finally, I love cycling. From many years as a senior leader at GE Aviation in Cheltenham, I am passionate about mentoring and coaching the next generation of leaders and I believe this experience is directly transferable into the charity. I also get much personal satisfaction from working on old and tired bikes to give them a new life that someone will enjoy.
As a trustee, I am able to support the strategy and future growth of the charity which also energises me and gives life a significant purpose.
Hi I'm Liz, I became a trustee for CFC in 2022 after originally joining the team in 2018 as a Cancer Exercise Specialist.
I'm currently a doctoral researcher at Loughborough University researching ways to increase the 'physical activity levels and quality of life of paediatric cancer patients and their family: A family-based approach'.
I am also a personal trainer and previously I was a Primary school teacher for almost 20 years.
I have worked with CFC visiting hospitals to meet with medical healthcare professionals as well as parents and child and teenage patients to share the importance of physical activity for children living with and beyond cancer. It has been great to also be involved in the family fun days hosted by the hospitals to meet some of the families that we have supported, as well as give other children and families affected by cancer opportunities to ride bikes and also apply for their own bikes.
My favourite part of the job is seeing the look on parents’ faces when they watch their child riding their CFC bike for the first time, doing something ‘normal’ during such a traumatic period for the whole family.
